Cell Phones and WiFi can Harm Your Brain

While the cell phone was invented 43 year ago, they have become an integral part of modern living and for many people their lives literally revolve around these devices.

Science Minister applauds Africa’s fastest computer

Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor congratulated the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) on unveiling Africa’s fastest computer.
The supercomputer named Lengau, the Setswana name for a cheetah which is the fastest animal in the wild, is dubbed Africa’s fastest computer.
The computer has a processing speed capable of a thousand-trillion floating point operations per second.
The Lengau now gives scientists in the research, technology and innovation space an opportunity to conduct their research locally without having to travel abroad for higher performance computing infrastructure.

Die burgerregte-organisasie AfriForum het gedurende hul nasionale slaggatmaand in Mei 2016 bykans 16 000 slaggate teen R2 479 000 landwyd herstel.
Al AfriForum se takke het aan dié veldtog deelgeneem en meer as 636 ton teer is gebruik om die herstelwerk te voltooi.
Volgens Marcus Pawson, hoof van plaaslike regering by AfriForum, het die organisasie aanvanklik beplan om 12 000 slaggate teen R2 miljoen te herstel, maar gedurende die verloop van die veldtog gesien dat groter ingryping nodig is.

SA National Culinary Team Presented with Springbok Blazers

The South African National Culinary Team will be participating in the 2016 IKA Culinary Olympics from 22 to 25 October 2016 in Erfurt, Germany, against 32 countries for the highest accolades the culinary industry has to offer.
SACA President, Stephen Billingham presented the team with their official Springbok blazers.
The team’s itinerary leading up to the Olympics in October include preparing a by-invitation-only dinner for 110 in Fourways and Cape Town.

SARS Commissioner walks for tax

South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner Tom Moyane on Friday interacted with tax payers, business owners and vendors among others, on the importance of paying their taxes.
Launching the tax season on Friday, Commissioner Moyane set out on a walk for tax route of 11.75km symbolising the country’s revenue target of R1.175 trillion.
