New Cancer Support Group in Centurion

Cancer Buddies is the support services project of the organisation People Living with Cancer.
Survivor driven, the project offers free support services to all newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families including a free 24 hour helpline, support groups and online web support.
The Cancer Buddies are all cancer survivors who are trained to assist patients that are facing diagnosis, treatment, emotional issues and understand a life of living with and going on beyond the treatment of cancer.

Health Boost for Ki-Deo Home

To celebrate World Health Day, Hirsch’s Centurion donated fruit and vegetables to the Ki-Deo Children’s Home in Centurion.
The Home provides a stable and safe home environment for destitute children, with house parents, Hein & Theresa Geldenhuys, providing for all the needs of the children, including social, physical, material and emotional.

A double first in SA Healthcare

Chantelle Gouws, 29-year old from Springs, became the first person and first woman in South Africa to undergo a partial nephrectomy using da Vinci robotic-assisted technology.
The organ-preserving excision of a cancerous tumour from her kidney was done in Midrand, Johannesburg.
Her tumour was diagnosed after an ovarian cyst burst while she was at work and with an ultrasound examination the golf ball-sized mass in her right kidney was discovered.
Her surgeon, urologist Dr Marius Conradie, said doing a partial nephrectomy was an extremely intricate and exacting procedure.

Hirsch’s Centurion together with some of their suppliers recently hosted their monthly Domestic Workers course, where Domestics are taught tips and tricks for cleaning as well as appliance maintenance.
Naomi Durham, branch manager from the Bedroom Boutique at Hirsch’s Centurion, demonstrated the proper use of mattress protectors and spoke on proper mattress care. Staff in the Spares and Service department demonstrated the various cleaning materials available at the store.

Eye Care Awareness Month

Eye Care Awareness Month is commemorated from 23 September 2015 to 20 October 2015 to raise awareness about the importance of eye health.
