Driving down memory lane

By John Lemmon

My first set of wheels was a 1952 Hillman Minx, cream in colour, which I purchased from a local doctor for the princely sum of ten pounds to be paid off at one pound per month.

The motor had just been overhauled and all my friends thought it was absolutely marvelous. The only blemish, if I can call it that, was that the rear seat had a tear, so no problem, I purchased a “Basutu” blanket which solved the obvious problem, and all the pals were happy.
Two weeks later it threw a conrod through the block, smashed the starter motor …

“Ben” vra Lana ewe skielik.
