Olievenhoutbosch Ontwikkelingsgroep hou Handwerkskou

Op 23 November het die vroue wat weekliks inskakel by die Olievenhoutbosch Ontwikkelingsgroep, hulle jaarlikse Handwerkskou gehou.
Vir die groep wat onder beskerming van die Centurion Raad vir Bejaardes funksioneer, is die Handwerkskou gewoonlik ‘n groot hoogtepunt.
Hierdie jaar se handwerk was volgens die beoordelaars van ‘n hoë gehalte en getuig van goeie ontwikkeling.
Weekliks neem gemiddeld 35 vroue deel aan die projek en hulle ouderdomme wissel van 25-78 jaar.
Hier geniet oud en jonk elke week die voorreg om by drie moontlike handwerkaktiwiteite in te skakel nl masjienwerk, handwerk …

Centurion Vrywillige Werkers van die Jaar 2009

Die ATKV Centurion het weer vanjaar die Centurion Vrywillige Werkers van die Jaar namens die inwoners van Centurion aangewys.
Inwoners van Centurion was genooi om inwoners wat kwalifiseer in een of meer van die kategorieë te nomineer.
‘n Baie belangrike voorvereiste is dat die persoon vrywillige diens, sonder betaling, op een of meer van die terreine gemeenskapsbeveiliging, jeugwerk, kultuurwerk, sport en welsynswerk moet lewer.
Die volgende persone is in die verskillende kategorië vereer:

GEM Village Remembers

On the 11 November 2009, a Wreath Laying Parade was held at GEM Village to commemorate Armistice Day.
Rev Russel Campbell opened the proceedings with a very appropriate message and prayer.
The wreath was laid by Doug Rowan who served as a tail-gunner in the Air Force during the 2nd World War. He was assisted by Lt Colonel Norman Gebardt from the SA Air Force.

Hot on Stage

On Saturday 31st October at a charity fashion show titled “Celebrating Life” Miss
World New Zealand showcased some of her sponsored pieces in preparation for
the 2009 Miss World Competition later this year.
The show was organized by Magdalena Schoeman (Miss World NZ) and her mother Riana Schoeman to raise funds for Variety New Zealand.
The show was the last event to raise enough funds to purchase an Insulin Pump
for a young lady, Amy Lloyd who has diabetes.

Die Kokkelollies by die Kersiefees

Die ATKV-oord Drakensville naby Bergville in KZNatal het die Vrystaters kom lus maak vir ‘n vakansie in die skilderagtige Drakensberge.
Die ATKV-tak op Ficksburg het weer lustig lede gewerf om by hul kultuuraktiwiteite op die dorp in te skakel.
Die ATKV-tak Centurion het weer Kersiefeesgangers met hul musikante en poppespel vermaak.
Die Kokkelollies het ook aan die lekker kersies gesmul terwyl hulle die kinders vermaak het.

Holiday fun at Centurion Mall

The Centurion Mall has erected a mini-golf course around a Christmas tree to keep the youngsters occupy while their parents are doing their Christmas Shopping. Visit the Centurion Mall and enjoy the fun activities for the whole family that had been organized for the holiday season.

The History of Christmas Cards

The tradition of sending Christmas cards begun in 1843 – about the same time as the first Christmas seal was published.
The first Christmas card was produced in England, the artwork was commissioned by Sir Henry Cole to John Calcott Horsley with the now very familiar inscription: “A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You.”
The idea was so well-received, that the following year, more than 25,000 Christmas cards were sold.

Ons hoor kersliedere oral in winkelsentrums in die miernes van bedrywigheid van mense wat hulself voorberei vir Kersfees.

Terwyl Kersfees vir my elke jaar ’n wonderlike seisoen is, is daar tog ’n paar goed wat my elke jaar meer hinder oor Kerstyd.

And so, this is Christmas!

As a community theatre, the Irene Dramatic Society (IDS) is dedicated to bringing theatre closer to the people at reasonable prices and they will be performing their Christmas Show on 4 and 5 December 2009
The year 2009 also marks the centenary year of IDS’ favourite charity, Irene Homes and to celebrate this great occasion, the IDS will donate the proceeds from all three performances of their Christmas Show to Irene Homes.
