Autumn

Driving through the tree lined streets of Centurion last week, I suddenly noticed it. The leaves are changing colours. Yes, you can feel it in the air early morning and after the sun has set. Autumn is on its way and that is very exciting – not just because of the change in temperature.
We have been waiting a long time and this month we start counting the last 100 days to the start of the 2010 World Cup on 11 June.

Vlytige “Vyfster”-vingers vereer

Die bekende kitaarvirtuoos Trevor Nasser, is onlangs in Centurion met ‘n ATKV-toekenning vir die bevordering van Afrikaanse musiek oor ‘n tydperk van 25 jaar vereer.
Hy het destyds al bekendheid verwerf toe sy vertolking van “Vyfster” as kenwysie in die eerste Afrikaanse dagsepie op SAUK TV gebruik is.
Sedertdien het sy vertolking van “Vyfster” al vier keer Platinumstatus verwerf.
Nog vier van sy Cd’s het al goudstatus verkry.
Die ATKV Centurion het die vrystelling en bekendstelling van sy 17e Cd “Blouberg se Strand” onder blyke van groot media- en ondersteunerbelangstelling in Centurion aangebied.

On Sunday, 7 March 2010, the South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) will open the new north-bound off-ramp at the Rooihuiskraal interchange.
The upgrade of this interchange is part of SANRAL’s Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).
As from this date, motorists en-route to Centurion will be required to make use of this new off-ramp.
SANRAL’s would like to highlight that motorists en-route to Midrand must continue to make use of the existing off-ramp.
The construction on this GFIP Package C commenced in June 2008 and completion is expected early in the first quarter …

Local Beauty to raise funds

Centurion beauty and semi-finalist in the Mrs South Africa 2010 competition, Tanya Matlou, would love to open and managed her own orphanage for abused, neglected and HIV infected children.
She believes that not a single child deserves to go without food, shelter and clothing – not even for a day.
Tanya has arranged an event to raise funds for charity and the theme of her fundraising event is “2010 Kick-off Party” with a South African Twist.

The growth recorded in the manufacturing sector in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to the latest figures on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) released by Statistics South Africa today, is positive news for a battered sector, the trade union Solidarity said today.      The manufacturing sector made the largest contribution to growth in the South African economy in the past quarter.

A Casual Celebration

Casual Day exceeded all expectations by raising over R17.7 million for persons with disabilities in the 2009 campaign.
This amount was made public at the Casual Day Show and Tell functions hosted across South Africa.
This the result of every R10 donation made by South Africans country wide that wore a Casual Day sticker on 4 September last year.

University of Pretoria’s Paediatrics and Child Health Department is currently conducting clinical trials of a new nasal vaccine -MEDI 534- and children are needed to take part in this study.
The trials of a new vaccine are against the two viruses, i.e. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 (PIV3), which are the most common causes of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lungs) and pneumonia in infants and young children.
