Time to be counted

South African President Jacob Zuma called upon the nation to participate in the upcoming national effort to count everybody within the borders of South Africa.
“There is no other resource which provides a comprehensive picture of South Africa’s population and our households as does the census data,” said president Zuma.
“We need to know and understand so that we can plan, implement, monitor and evaluate outcomes of our development endeavours,” added the president.
Statistics South Africa will conduct the country’s third population and housing census from 10 to 31 October 2011.

The annual Oktoberfest enjoyed by all

The annual Oktoberfest organised and hosted by the Deutsche Schule Pretoria was once again a resounding success.
The main attraction was the Ottrauer Musikanten Oompah Band from Germany that entertained young and old with their lively music.
There was enough food and drinks for everyone’s taste. Also available were a village market, hobby’s fair and vehicle exhibitions. Children enjoyed the fairground rides and the alley of games was a hit with them.

The most effective form of rabies prevention is to vaccinate animals against the disease.
According to law all dogs and cats have to be vaccinated against Rabies.
The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) and the SAVA have joined forces to tackle this problem. 
Started on 1 September 2011 until 31 October 2011, certain private veterinary practices in Gauteng have agreed to provide FREE Rabies vaccinations to all dogs and cats older than three months and those that have not had a rabies vaccination within the last three years.

Striving for Deployment Excellence

The Air Force Mobile Deployment Wing recently hosted a parade at Swartkop West (previously the Air Force Gymnasium) where members were honoured with 48 medals issued by Brig Genl L J Selepe for excellent and long services. 
According to Col. Crous, Officer Commanding, the members also wanted the public to be proud of them and they decided that Operation Clean-up of Swartkop West before the medal parade was the answer.

Nuwe Uitvoerende Hoof van die Voortrekkermonument

Mev Sonja Lombard is met ingang van 16 September 2011 aangestel as die nuwe Besturende Direkteur van die Voortrekkemonument en Natuurreservaat (MSW) en die VTM Projekte (Edms) Bpk aangestel.
Sy neem oor as die uitvoerende hoof van die Voortrekkermonument Groep in die plek van genl.maj. Gert Opperman, wat sedert 8 Maart 2000 in die pos was.
Mev Lombard het met die verloop van haar loopbaan die voorreg gehad om wye blootstelling in verskeie bestuursdissiplines te geniet.

Maj-General V R Masono has been appointed as Chief of the SA Army with effect from 1 October 2011, with Maj-Gen L Rudman as his deputy, Defence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has announced.
Lt-Gen C Gagiano was appointed as Chief of the SA Air Force with Maj-Gen G Malinga as his deputy, and V-Adm J Mudimu as Chief of the SA Navy with R-Adm MS Hlongwane as deputy, the department of defence said in a statement.

Die vakbond Solidariteit het die mynmaatskappy Anglo American onlangs gelukgewens nadat die maatskappy tydens die tiende Internasionale DuPont Beroepsveiligheidstoekennings bekroon is as dié mynmaatskappy wat deur volgehoue bestuurstoewyding, beroepsgesondheid en -veiligheid in die Suid-Afrikaanse mynbedryf bevorder.

Cubs plant trees in park

When the 23rd Lyttelton Cubs wanted to plant trees in the local park as their part during Arbor week, Rikki (Janice Ash) contacted Councillor Clive Napier for assistance. 
At Cllr Napier’s request, the Tshwane Metro Council donated 15 Olive and Karee trees to be planted.
A local pharmacy donated rubber gloves to be used and surprised the Cubs with sweets they enjoyed after the planting.
