Trees donated and planted at Irene Homes

The South African National Seed Organisation held their annual congress in Irene during May 2012 and decided to spend a morning at Irene Homes as part of their outreach program.
Not only did the management team painted the window frames of the Weaving and Knitting workshop, but also planted 21 indigenous trees on the grounds as a lasting gift and life-long bond with the Homes.
The tree planting is done at the Annual Congress each year as part of their drive to reduce the carbon footprint.

To celebrate the 4th annual International Mandela Day, and to ensure the ongoing commitment of offering 67 minutes of goodwill to give back in service to communities, 67 bikers will take to the road on 14 July 2012.
The group of Bikers will depart from the Irene Village Mall in Centurion Pretoria and ride to the Belfast Children’s Home to aide and take part in the activities of the Children’s Home.

Remains of Ex-SADF Members handed over

On 23 November 1975, a number of soldiers were wounded and some lost their lives on the battlefields near Ebo in Angola.
The driver of one of the armoured vehicles, Trooper Niel Lombard was one of the soldiers that died that day. His grave and remains could not been found.
Two days later, Captain Danie Taljaard, 2Lt Keith Williamson and 2Lt Eric Thompson, flew over the EBO area and never returned.

Kersiemampoerkampioene elke jaar sedert 1985

Dr. Johann van der Watt, ‘n chirurg van Johannesburg, is onlangs vir die tweede agtereenvolgende jaar as Nasionale Kersiemampoerstoker by die Mampoerfees aangewys.
Sedert 1985 was daar nog elke jaar ‘n lid van die familie wat as Nasionale Kersiemampoerstoker aangewys is.
Dr. Johann van der Watt is die derde erfgenaam van die stokerslisensie.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has called on law-abiding citizens to stop buying stolen goods. Speaking at the national launch of the Second-Hand Goods Act in Limpopo recently, the minister warned that with the Act, the buyer of stolen goods was as guilty at the criminal who stole the goods.
The Act also empowers police to arrest the buyer and the thief, so there was no excuse when it came to criminality.
While the Act would be a nuisance to those who bought stolen goods, it would also provide relief to victims of …

Every two years, the South African Quilters’ Guild invites quilters to take part in a travelling exhibition which visits centres around the country.
The theme of the seventh travelling quilt exhibition is Jewels of the Earth.
This exhibition showcases a selection of South Africa-inspired quilts: diverse in design, rich in the use of colour, fibre and threads, stitched with boundless creativity and imagination, all blended together in harmony.
Selected quilts from quilters of the Jacaranda Quilters Guild will also be on display.

The SACBW Centurion branch held their bi-monthly meeting at the Forever Resorts Centurion Hotel on 14 June 2012.
The guest speaker was Kevin Leak who is a chirologist gave a very interesting talk and explained that a person’s life, health past and future could be read on one’s hands.
