In 1664, an Englishman, John Evelyn, wrote a deeply felt plea for replanting trees, making him the world’s first official defender of trees.
In 1872, Sterling Morton, an American journalist, pioneered the idea of an official tree planting day.

World Retina Week is a part of Eye Care Awareness month

Eye Care Awareness Month runs from 23 September until 20 October 2013 and includes World Retina Week that runs from 23 to 29 September 2013.
Retina South Africa is promoting the early identification of retinal degenerative conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP), stargardt dystrophy and other allied conditions.
These conditions are genetic and occur most frequently in families with no previous history of blindness.
Early symptoms for macular degeneration are loss of central vision or wavy lines. RP starts with night blindness and a loss of side vision.

SACBW Centurion Branch Celebrated Women’s Month

The South African Council for Business Women’s Centurion Branch celebrated Women’s Month with a fun-filled afternoon.
The chairperson, Cerita Nagy, introduced Elize Coetser, a trustee of SACBW, who gave some background on the history, achievements and goals of SACBW.
Guest speaker Marline Ramsamey’s discussed “Celebrating the Contribution of Women in the World of Work” and guest speaker Lisa Butler spoke about the journey of printing and designing fabrics.

Hirsch’s hosts Estate Agents Luncheon

Hirsch’s Centurion hosted an exclusive, invitation-only luncheon at their store recently bringing together local estate agents and conveyancing attorneys.
It was also a good way to spread the word to new property owners that Hirsch’s as the preferred supplier of household goods offers a one-stop shop for appliance and lifestyle needs to their customers.

Streaker at Hirsch’s Centurion

Things where hot and happening recently at Hirsch’s Centurion, when Tshwane’s Fire Department visited the store with their fire engine, the “Streaker”.
“The fire engine created huge excitement especially with the younger shoppers, with more than one parent being dragged out the store to take some pictures,” said Hirsch’s Stephan Geldenhuys.
“Streaker” is one of only a few fire engines left that was imported from the USA, the fire dept.
