I have been pondering about the celebrations of Mandela Day and the 67 minutes people will be using to do good to all underprivileged communities throughout South Africa.
Now it appeared to me that some companies getting involved are only doing their 67 minutes to receive free publicity in the media.
When asking some of these companies to contribute to their exposure in the media (community newspapers also need to survive as a business), they refused as they “did not budget” for that and it is “not their target market.”
Makes one wonder …

Nuwe Besturende Direkteur

Die Direksie van die Voortrekkermonument en Erfenisstigting het aangekondig dat Cecilia Kruger as die nuwe Besturende Direkteur van die twee instansies vanaf 1 Julie 2016 aangestel is.
As die Senior Bestuurder: Erfenisbewaring, het Cecilia Kruger sedert November 2015 as Besturende Direkteur waargeneem.
Me Kruger het in 2000, na 15 jaar in erfenisbewaring en museumwese, saam met genl Gert Opperman by die Voortrekkermonument ingeval en was onder andere verantwoordelik vir die vestiging en uitbou van alle vakkundige dienste op die terrein.

SA Tourism Minister honoured by Germany

Germany recently awarded the country’s highest honour to South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom.
The Order of Merit was conferred on Minister Hanekom by Ambassador Walter Lindner, on behalf of Federal President Joachim Gauck at a ceremony held in Pretoria.
The Order of Merit is the highest tribute that Germany pays to individuals for their political, economic, social and intellectual achievements.
Ambassador Lindner said the Order of Merit was made in recognition of Minister Hanekom’s contribution to cooperation between Germany and South Africa during his tenure as Minister of Science and Technology.

The public has been invited to put forward their nominations of persons from all walks of life that they believe deserve to receive the country’s highest honours, the National Orders.
The Grand Patron of the National Orders, President Jacob Zuma, has invited the nominations before the 31 August 2016 deadline.
The next National Orders awards investiture ceremony will take place in April 2017, honouring South Africans and eminent foreign nationals who have contributed to the achievement of a free, united, non-racial, democratic, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa in various ways.

Greenest city in South Africa

The eThekwini Metro in KwaZulu-Natal and Mossel Bay Municipality in the Western Cape have been named the greenest municipalities in South Africa and won the overall prizes in the metro and local categories respectively.
Announcing the winners of the 5th Greenest Municipality Competition (GMC) recently, Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister Barbara Thompson reiterated the need for municipalities to improve the lives of their citizens.
She said municipalities can do this by promoting environmental cleanliness.
The overall winners will receive R3.5 million, with the first runner-up receiving R3 million and the second runner-up R2.5 million.

A women’s event with a twist

Elmarie Pretorius, International Speaker, Author, Trainer and a Regional Finalist for SACBW Business Women of the Year Award 2016, is hosting a charity event called Dear Future Me.
All Ticket proceeds will be donated to the iDuc Project, a charity for women and children who have been victims of abuse, as part of the fundraising initiative envisioned by SACBW.

Kids benefit from World Sleep Day at Hirsch’s Centurion

Hirsch’s hosted a competition for World Sleep day, whereby each branch competed to see how many children could fit onto a bed.
The Gauteng winners were the Grade 9 class of the High School Uitsig in Centurion when they fitted 27 learners onto a bed.
As winners of the competition, the school nominated the Shiny Kids Daycare and Development Centre, Olievenhoutbosch to receive the sponsored ten mattresses.
The Centre cares for 60 children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, also providing them with breakfast and lunch.

Leaders need Guts and Ethics to succeed

This was the monthly topic of the June 2016 network event held by the SA Council for Business Women, Centurion Branch at the Forever Centurion Hotel.
The guest speaker was Sonja Smith, dynamic and multi business award winner, who started her first funeral parlour with guts and ethics eighteen years ago.

New Showroom to compliment Hirsch’s Centurion

Adding bathroom accessories to Hirsch’s Centurion is now giving customers a new one-stop shopping experience with the launch of the Bathroom Bizarre showroom in June 2016.
The launch was attended by CEO of Hirsch’s Allan Hirsch and some of his staff, directors of Bathroom Bizarre, customers and other visitors. Background entertained was supplied by Hein Music while guests mingled and admired the accessories on display.
