First Riana van Niekerk Race for Bibles

1 August 2016 No Comment

The first Riana van Niekerk Run and Walk for Bibles took place 25 June 2016 at Zwartkops High School in Centurion.
About 3500 athletes from all over Gauteng participated in this very special event, commemorating the life of Riana van Niekerk (18 June 1976 to 13 February 2016) and raising funds for Bible translation and distribution in SA and the rest of the world.
Riana was a four times gold medal athlete in the Comrades Marathon, six times winner of the “Around the Dam”-marathon and three-time winner of the prestigious “Two Oceans”-marathon.
In future this race will be known as the Riana van Niekerk Run&Walk4Bibles Race.
The marathon anniversary was also celebrated with a special community project from which needy athletes will be supplied with running shoes, sweatshirts, caps, scarves and t-shirts.
The public donated cash and brand new or second-hand running kit that will be distributed.
The vision of this marathon for 2017 is to unite Gauteng for Bible translation and distribution as well as the upliftment of disadvantaged athletes in South Africa.
