I have been pondering about the celebrations of Mandela Day and the 67 minutes people will be using to do good to all underprivileged communities throughout South Africa.
Now it appeared to me that some companies getting involved are only doing their 67 minutes to receive free publicity in the media.
When asking some of these companies to contribute to their exposure in the media (community newspapers also need to survive as a business), they refused as they “did not budget” for that and it is “not their target market.”
Makes one wonder if Mandela Day is serving its purpose for what Madiba stood.
I say if you really want to support the purpose of Mandela Day, get involved on a daily or monthly basis and prove that you really care to make South Africa a better place.
