New off-ramp at Rooihuiskraal

13 March 2010 No Comment

On Sunday, 7 March 2010, the South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) will open the new north-bound off-ramp at the Rooihuiskraal interchange.

The upgrade of this interchange is part of SANRAL’s Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).

As from this date, motorists en-route to Centurion will be required to make use of this new off-ramp.

SANRAL’s would like to highlight that motorists en-route to Midrand must continue to make use of the existing off-ramp.

The construction on this GFIP Package C commenced in June 2008 and completion is expected early in the first quarter of 2011.

The opening of the new northbound off-ramp is the most significant change to be implemented at the Rooihuiskraal Interchange, apart from the addition of lanes on the N1 freeway itself through the Rooihuiskraal Interchange.

A further improvement to be implemented very soon after the off-ramp opening, is the conversion of the northbound through movement, on the Old Johannesburg Rd (R101), at the north-western terminal to a free-flow movement, i.e. this movement will in future not stop at the terminal’s traffic signal.

The combination of the new northbound off-ramp together with the change at the terminal is expected to drastically reduce delays at this Interchange.

SANRAL thank motorists for their continued patience during the construction period.
