KIA Motors Mascot Friend Campaign

13 June 2010 No Comment

Kia Motors, an official automotive partner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup TM, will be giving six young children from Pretoria the opportunity of a life time.

The KIA Mascot Friend Program, which was launched on 27 March 2010, searches for children between the ages of 8 and 14 to accompany Zakumi, the official Mascot of the 2010 FIFA World Cup TM, onto the pitch before match kick-off for each of the 64 matches.

The Pretoria search for the six youngsters took place on the 8th of May at the Centurion Mall.

Through a massive media campaign children were encouraged to come along and show off their talents in either dancing, singing, acting or their ability to play a musical instrument.

The 74 participants were judged on their power to surprise, confidence, personality, and audience appeal.

Judges on the day were Idols star Munro du Toit and well-known sports presenter Trevor Cramer from Jacaranda 94.2 FM.

Of course Zakumi attended the event keeping a close eye on his future friends who will be accompanying him on match days.

The judges finally decided on: Samukelo Marule, Kate Kekana, Gontse Matjeni,  Venita Engelbrecht,  Loyiso Lentswe and Reba Finger.

The road show has travelled to all nine venues where matches will be played.         Almost 800 children auditioned around the country and 51 very talented youngsters were selected.

The remaining 13 children, who will also accompany Zakumi on match days, will come from a host of different nations, to make it 64 winners in total.

KIA also offers many other programs that gives soccer enthusiasts a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to experience the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ live.

Reba Finger and Venita Engelbrecht, both from Centurion, were chosen to accompany Zakumi at World Cup matches.
