Fuel saving tips

26 January 2011 No Comment

You have probably heard it before, but with the higher fuel prices we have to look at ways to save money and fuel. Listed below are some tips which could help you to save fuel and money:

* Do not let your vehicle idle in the morning at startup. This causes undue frictional damage to the motor, as it is still cold. Startup and drive off slowly until the motor reaches operating temperature.

* Do not accelerate or brake harshly, this cost money.

* Check your tyre pressures. Under-inflated tyres create greater rolling resistance and therefore use more energy.

* Service your vehicle regularly. Dirty plugs and air filters use a lot more fuel.

* Do not drive with your windows open. The air turbulence creates a drag. Using your air-conditioner is more economical.

* Plan your route, the more times you stop at robots and stop streets the more fuel you use while at idle. Do not drop off the kids at school and go home, only to go shopping later. Plan it!!

* A heavy foot cost money, take it easy, you will still get there and save money.

* Use the octane rating recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer. Using cheaper octanes will not save money but eventually result in expensive engine repairs.
