A buzz of cheer was heard across Pretoria as the annual athletics meeting, PEMHSAA (Pretoria English Medium High School Athletics Association), was successfully hosted at Pilditch Stadium by Sutherland High School on 17 February 2011.

A total of six Pretoria based English Government schools attended this year’s function, giving each athlete the drive and motivation to compete for their respective school.

Clapham High School, Lyttelton Manor High School, Pretoria Technical High School, The Glen High School, Willowridge High School and Sutherland High School have all been training their athletes diligently in preparation for this sporting spectacular.        All learners are included as each school also competes for the respected Spirit Trophy where they are judged according to their team work, participation, creativity and overall excitement.

Excitement exploded on the stands as Sutherland High School was announced girl’s trophy winners, boy’s trophy winners, relay winners and overall winners for their twentieth consecutive year.

The school was also proudly awarded the acclaimed Spirit Trophy, a fantastic achievement.

The esteemed spirit judges, Amelia du Toit; Rinaldi Joubert; Lise Hilhorst, said on the day, “The spirit all round was of a much higher calibre, therefore the competition was very close this year.”

Individual awards were received by Pricen Govender as Junior Victor Ludorum; Thando Mazibuko as Junior Vixtrix Ludorum and Simpiwe Slemni as Senoir Victrix Ludorum, all of which attend Sutherland High School.

Nsuku Mdumela from The Glen High School was awarded the Senior Victor Ludorum trophy.
