The junior novice award is presented to a junior paddler under the age of 18 who has competitively participated in the highest amount of races throughout South Africa during the previous year, achieving the greatest success.

Danie Botes, who attends Centurion Hoƫrskool, has only been paddling for a couple of years and 2010 saw him competitively take on various major national canoeing challenges throughout South Africa.

As a 16 year old young paddler, Danie completed the Dusi race in 2010 with his father and then took the challenge in February 2011 in a single K1 canoe finishing the grueling endurance challenge in a time of 12h33.

He just missed an Under 16 podium position at the Fish Marathon in October 2010 which was a doubles event and has earned respect from the canoeing community earning his award the hard way.

Dennis Carlse, Chairman of Gauteng Canoe Union, presents the Junior Novice Paddling Trophy 2010 to Danie Botes.
