Kasparov was in the country to launch the African chapter of the Kasparov Chess Foundation.

The mission of the foundation is to bring educational benefits of chess to children throughout the world.

Garry Kasparov became the youngest ever Chess World Champion in 1985 at the age of 22 and was the highest ranked chess player for 22 years until he retired from professional chess in 2005.
