DA Congratulates Tshwane for Blue Drop achievement

6 June 2012 No Comment

The DA has congratulated the MMC Services Infrastructure, Councillor Percy Zitha and the Directors and staff of the Water and Sanitation Department, for its recent achievement in the annual Blue Drop drinking water program.

The Blue Drop scores are based on evaluations of municipal drinking water systems carried out by drinking water professionals.

They not only evaluate the water quality but also the management and planning of the system.

To receive a Blue Drop award, a water system must score 95 percent or more.

The top performing system in the country was Tshwane Central and South, which achieved the excellent score of 99.3 percent.

As a municipality, Tshwane scored 95.76 percent, up from 90.41 in 2011, and rose from 25th place in 2011 to 16th place in 2012.

Councillor Darryl Moss of the DA commented that while areas such as Hammanskraal and the previous municipalities of Kungwini and Nokeng still fall behind the rest of the system and needed a high degree of attention, it was clear that the Tshwane drinking water systems were in capable hands.
